Sending Season’s Greetings from our Family to Yours

By S. Mark Talley, Chief Executive Officer*

A star-shaped light that is inside a jar lit up with Christmas ornaments and a snowy backgroundThere is an old saying that says, “the days are long, but the years are short”. Perhaps you have heard that one too? If you are like me, you realize how true that statement is, especially during the holiday season. It seems that no sooner than the holiday decorations are stored, another Thanksgiving approaches and it’s time to once again decide how early you will decorate for the coming holidays. I find that I want to decorate earlier and earlier each year. I think that stems from an ever-growing recognition of how precious the holidays are and how few of them we really get in a lifetime. The last few years I have tried to live more in the moment, often failing, and really soak in the times with parents, grandparents, children, and other family and friends. I’m sure many of us experience periods of sadness during the holiday season as we reflect on relatives and friends that were once a big part of our holiday joy yet are no longer with us. For these reasons and so many others I sincerely hope that you will all endeavor to cherish every moment you have this holiday season with loved ones.

I want to thank the clients of QMC for welcoming me into the company in the summer of this year. I have had the opportunity to meet some of you at the various trade shows I have attended in the brief few months that I have been here, and it was such a pleasure to meet you in person. For those that I have yet to meet, I hope that I will get that opportunity in 2023. I have learned a great deal about what an important role QMC plays in the success and financial survival of the many EMS clients we serve. After a career serving physician practices and hospital clients, I am greatly honored to now serve the heroes of the EMS community in some small way. You can rest assured that we will endeavor to provide you all with the best results and service in the industry while you continue to save lives across America.

Now, back to my holiday message. As I was contemplating what message I wanted to convey, I first began to reflect on the preciousness of life and the scarcity of holiday seasons that we all truly live through in a lifetime. Then it hit me. Our EMS clients don’t merely save lives every day, you literally extend the number of holiday seasons families is blessed to have in a lifetime. I dare say there are almost no extended families gathering this season that are not in some ways intact because of the heroic efforts of the EMS community. You not only save individual lives but you preserve family units and a patchwork of family and friends that are so often broken or interrupted by tragedy. I can think of examples in my own extended family of relatives who would not be with us if not for your rapid interventions and lifesaving efforts. I am struck by the awesome gift the collective EMS community gives us all and the holidays are a time when we are most likely to take a step back, gather with family and friends and feel gratitude for your service. From all of us at QMC, thank you. Thank you for trusting us to be your EMS Revenue Cycle partner, but a bigger thanks for the day-in and day-out service you provide to this nation…even on the holidays. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a great new year in 2023.
